Wails of a Distant Lullaby

for Symphony Orchestra

Wails of a Distant Lullaby is a piece written in a single linear arc, which utilizes a single three-note fragment throughout the entire piece. The short motivic fragment used throughout the piece slowly develops into a melody complete in itself to give the listener a momentary sense of clarity. Textures in the piece are created by layering temporally augmented linear motivic lines. Which at the same time generates harmony from the verticality of manipulated forms of the three-note fragment. The piece lacks any sense of finality between the sections which reflects a sense of never-ending contemplation.
